After two years of work, the church of San Sebastián has been renewed. The works were promoted by the Archdiocese of Madrid and funded by the Community of Madrid, with €560,000. They finished in March 2026 and focused on the parts of the church built after the Civil War.
What has been done
- A new roof and a complete system of gutters and downpipes to stop leaks.
- The façades, cleaned, with the brickwork consolidated, the cracks sealed and the graffiti removed.
- The stone window frames and plinths, which had been painted over, have recovered their original colour.
- The pinnacle with its cross, the small belfry and its bell.
- The stained-glass windows, with the broken panes replaced.
- The statue of Saint Sebastian over the doorway on Calle de San Sebastián and its granite niche, cleaned.
- The railings, the door on Calle de San Sebastián, the woodwork and the plaques on the Atocha doorway.
- Inside, the atrium and the areas damaged by damp have been cleaned and painted.
The parish thanks the Community of Madrid and the Archdiocese for their support, and everyone who carried out the works for their effort.
Come and see it: the church is open from 9:30 to 13:00 and from 18:00 to 20:30, and there is a GUIDED TOUR on Mondays at 11:30.
